Color Capture: Lazy, Hazy Ocean City | July 2026
Unusual for the shore, this is a week of rainy, hazy mornings. The color palette is different, more muted and diffused. It is a boardwalk, so there are a few splashes of colors, but in the soft haze, it's the wooden strips changing color with the rain that are the star of this show.
Experiment:
Capture the nuances of a hazy morning at the shore
Plus:
- Really helped me to notice the change in colors and values - all of them in a more narrow range
- This color capture had the most subtle range of colors to date - saturation/chroma rather than hue played a bit part in this exploration
Minus:
- Variations in wood were difficult to capture due to how important texture is and the impact of the water as both reflection and diffusion
Next:
- Think about how a reduced range works or doesn't... the colors that appear "strong" here are different than in a full palette
