Reassembled Vase: Unassembled 1

Experiment:

What would it mean to take apart this carefully reconstructed vase? I cut the print into it's individual shards.

Notes:

This was very much influenced by doing jigsaw puzzles with my nephew and husband, all of us trying to figure out how small, disjointed pieces made a "bigger picture".

Plus:
  • I love the pieces coming apart and coming back together, the patterns and overlays that form. Cutting the pieces up made me think of Jigsaw puzzles. Piecing them back together on the Riso bed made it very clear that this isn't a jigsaw puzzle, things don't "snap" together. Instead it's fragile and adding one piece shifts the others, which made me feel a little bit like an archeologist. (A definite plus for me!)
Minus:
  • It's time consuming to fit the pieces together, even though I enjoy it, and costs time printing.
Next:
  • Learn how to save masters in the Riso's memory so I can create more stages and play with overlays in different colors. (note this isn't doable, it saves your settings for the master, not the master itself)
  • Try "pre-assembling" on a piece of acetate.
  • Copy the numbers onto a reverse print to make it easier to assemble.
